Known as Robert or Bob. Taken by his father to Epsom racecourse to be a groom at the age of 14 yrs - he didn\'t like it & didn\'t stay for long. He went on to live in Bletchingley in what had been a granary barn. He met Nancy Golding when he was 18 years old and then became a bricklayer.
